B i o g r a p h y
Scott Passarella is an composer, performer and educator from the great state of California.
He began learning improv onstage through ComedySportzLA, and has since worked as an accompanist and performer at UCB, The Second City, iO West, and more. With a background in piano, theatre, vocal performance and comedy, Scott has become one of the most renowned Musical Improv instructors and accompanists in town. He can also play guitar, but not nearly as well.
Scott has written and improvised music for The Story Pirates, SMOSH, Dropout.tv, Earwolf, and Cedar Fair Parks; including vocal arrangements, songwriting, scoring and original barbershop quartet arrangements. He has also composed songs for multiple Second City revues, podcast themes, and internet shorts. To date; he has co-written the music for over fifty one-act plays, and has composed the music for more than 1,000 improvised musicals.
When he isn't writing and playing music, Scott enjoys spending time with his wife and child; they visit Merry-Go-Rounds as often as possible.
Scott offers private instruction for pianists interested in learning more about improvised accompaniment, and coaches both musical and non-musical improv teams throughout Los Angeles. Workshops are occasionally offered, and can be booked on request for a minimum of 5 students or more.
